These three volumes present the proceedings of the 5th European Conference on Argumentation, held at the Warsaw University of Technology from 23 to 26 September 2025. Bringing together nearly two hundred scholars from Europe, Asia, and the Americas, the conference addressed the theme Argumentation in the Digital Society, focusing on how digitalisation is transforming public discourse. The contributions examine both the opportunities created by digital communication and the challenges it poses, including polarisation, misinformation, and the erosion of shared epistemic standards. At the same time, the volumes remain grounded in the core traditions of argumentation studies while extending them through interdisciplinary dialogue with fields such as computer science, psychology, and communication studies.
Volume 1 includes 18 papers and thematic panel contributions, while Volumes 2 and 3 each comprise 17 regular papers. The distribution across the volumes is organisational rather than thematic, with papers arranged alphabetically (except for the long papers in Volume 1). Together, the 52 contributions offer a representative overview of contemporary argumentation research, spanning theoretical, empirical, and applied perspectives – from models of rational discourse and fallacy analysis to experimental studies, argument mining, and AI-based approaches.
